A woman who works with her hands is a LABORER; a woman who works with her hands and head, a CRAFTSMAN; but a woman who works with her hands, her head and her heart is an ARTIST. ~ St. Francis of Assisi

I will redo the white with a title that says something like Walt Disney adventure 2015

Mickey Mouse Disney box complete

Im posting this from my cell phone ap so its not going to be set up exactly how I would like it until I can get to my lap top

I finally finished the box and I'm so glad I changed it to a Disney theme.

The materials I used
Old jewelry box from the thrift shop
Folk art chalk paint  not sure of the exact names but red black white
Folk art wax clear
Satin polyurethane (hate that stuff)
Sand paper
Disney patterned paper (it was a kit not sure by whom will update also)
6 wood cabinet knobs
6 flat head wood screws #6 1 1/4 inch
Clear putty
Mod podge
3 Disney punches
Black card stock
Hot glue gun
E 6000
Paper trimmer
Scissors
phillips screw driver
Pliers
Misc brushes
Paper plate
Lint free cloth
Rags
Ribbon
Fun foam
Foam adhesive
Push pin
Red mat board
Dictionary pages
Disney post card
Washi tape
Ruler
Pencil

So the only things I actually purchased to complete this project was the 6 cabinet handles (walmart wood 2 for 1.97) the screws (Home depot 98 cents) wood putty (walmart about 4 bucks but this item will not be exclusive to this project so I will get more use out if it) and the box (goodwill 2.99)

So as mentioned in the previous post I painted the box black and painted the knobs black red and white. I also combined the 2 bottom drawers to make it bigger for a mini album.  I planned to distress the box.  I changed my mind.

After the back paint dried I painted the sections I wanted red. Here is when I decided to keep the lid black.  When I painted the front scallops red I realized they were better off black to I repainted black.

After the red paint dried I attempted touch ups.  At the end I gave up.  Im there is a cross contamination fairy out there.

I measured the papers.

I attempted pre drill the holes.  I didn't have much luck.

I mod podged the papers on.

I attached the knobs.   This was the hardest part.  I can hear Jinger Adams on create and craft your project is only going to be as good as your tools.   I needed a different kind of screw driver.  (Just got it today for future boxes) I had to replace the paper about 5 times.  I used almost a whole 12x12 sheet.

Retouch

Let dry

Mod podged torn dictionary pages and mickey punches into the drawer

Retouch

Let dry

The box was wobbly plus to prevent scratching the table I added fun foam at the bottom. On one leg I gave an extra layer of foam tape to even it out.

On the inside of the box I used washie tape to hide the edge.  Sealed with more mod podge.

More touch ups... not ready to give up quite yet.

Put the hinge back on

Retouched

Painted on the wax

Painted the polyurethane inside the box

Buffed

Retouched

Added the matt board and post card

Added the ribbon

Gave up on the retouching.   When its dry its done.

I might have to wax the I side if the polyurethane is still sticky.

Next I will be making the book

Lost August card

I made this card during the August challenge but it got tuckew away in a sketch book.  I didn't mind if I never found it.  It was not my favorite.   I actually was playing around with with cutting the die.  I had problems in the past if you scroll down and see.

It was just a matter of rearranging the plates.  I used the same plates just a different order.

The materials used
Card stock
Gold and blue metallic poster board
Pearlesent card create and craft
Sea siren reflection die sea siren
Back fun foam
Adhesive

Yes can you believe the black is fun foam? Talk about a major difference rearranging your plates.

WIP ... the jewelry box

Well folks the weekend is going to be SUPER Nasty.

They are calling from 8-18 inches of rain.  We are in a Flood watch so its a good idea to stay parked!

My Hyundai is on its sick bed so I been driving the mom mobile.  Its most likely the battery and with all that rain how am I ever going to get the car jump started and to auto zone to replace the battery?

Its finally beginning, the rain that is.  Been waiting for it all day.  Well it has been raining all day.  In fact its been raining since Thursday.  Not yesterday Thursday.  Last week Thursday.  I am rather tired of it.  My mom says I don't remember the last time it rained so much.  I said when we were in Seattle in 1992.

Well this weekend I am going to clean the house (snort)

Plus work on some projects.  I got three cooking right now.

The art journal page Desire.  Its almost done
A smashbook/mixed media journal book/autograph book of my trip to Disney world.  Date not to be disclosed ha ha
and the Disney jewelry box.

I posted these pictures a few days ago but why not again.  I am just wild and crazy like that.

Here is what I did to it so far.  I removed the innards and the hard ware
I attempted to remove the mirror with out breaking it.  FAIL.  I removed the broken mirror
The top drawer that slides out was not securely glued so one side easily came off.  This enabled me to remove the bottom.
I glued that shell of the drawer to the bottom drawer
I removed the tracking that the top drawer runs on so it will fit the one deep drawer
I used wood putty and filled in the holes
I painted it with several coats of black chalk paint
I picked out the red which will be painted over the black paint job (sneaky peak tip I will be distressing)
I picked out the papers I am going to glue on onto it
I decided to go with 6 knobs 2 white 2 black 2 red I was concerned that I would not be able to find the red ones.  Walmart happened to have wood ones so SCORE.  I bought 3 packages (2 in each package)  That's the only embellishment so to speak I have had to purchase so far.  Most items were on hand.  I did buy the wood putty but that will be used for loads of projects.
I painted the knobs the colors I mentioned earlier
It is now drying

Fun facts (don't you find it amusing when they say fun facts and its really not fun

I painted the box on my bed

I got red paint on the bed

My rag is a holey sock.  I wish I could say it is because nothing gets thrown away but that would be a fib.  I was to lazy to go look for a rag

The cat sat with me during most of the painting.

I started paining the box while watching the blacklist

The box is upside down in the photo

To do next
Paint the box red
Glue the papers on the box
Finish the inside drawers (see next section)
Add the knobs
Wax the box
Finish the top
Complete the mini book

Haven't decided on
If I will be using fabric, felt or paper for the inside drawers of the box
What to do on top of the box
what type of mini book will go inside the box (binding ... tutorial etc)
