A woman who works with her hands is a LABORER; a woman who works with her hands and head, a CRAFTSMAN; but a woman who works with her hands, her head and her heart is an ARTIST. ~ St. Francis of Assisi

In Isle of Palms on Robin's Birthday

how to fly a trick kite with no effort

Robins Birthday

Today is Robin’s Birthday. We went to Isle of Palms. What started out with 4 car procession ended up being two. Everybody backed out. We ate at Coconut Joes. Then played on the beach.  I had fun using the distance lens for close ups and for those the in the water.

I will post pictures when I have them ready

todays photo

at robins kathryns and Heathers birthday.  Notice Kathryn is missing.  Well thats pretty typical.  She had better things to do then to show up for her birthday dinner.
I will post the picture I took.  This one was took by the people there and it is grainy.

Here is the one I took

Kathryns birthday

It is Kathryn’s birthday today. I spent the day with Mum getting Birthday gifts for Robin, Kathryn and Heather. We had dinner at Myabi’s a Hibachi grill type place where the chefs tries to be funny and insult each other as they cook our food in front of us. The best part is when he had that fake bottle of mustard and squeezed it right at me. I didn’t flinch. Saw it coming a mile away. Poor Heather. They got her twice. So the photo of the day is all of us at dinner. One they took with me in it, and one I took myself without me in it of course. Can’t be into places at once.

I was able to get two of the three needed birthday cards done (also Heathers October 3 and Robins tomorrow)

For Heathers I found this neat instruction sheet from Michaels. I don’t think it would be a problem to scan it and post it because they give them out free and I did not edit the instructions in anyway . Here is the back and front of the original instructions. I loved it the first moment I saw it. I bought the stamp set just for the card. I had the alcohol ink and of course I had tons of card stock. Not the same brand but what I had will work.

I had other ideas of swirling in my head what to make Heather and they all flew out of my brain when I saw this card. Super Easy too. Even thow difficult level says it is a 3. Ha I don’t think so.

Here is my take of it. I didn’t have the exact card stock but I had something pretty close. It is impossible to make the exact alcohol ink pattern so I swirled and dropped and smudged and came up with this. I really love the man with the umbrella. They also have a die cut which I bought at AC moore. They have embossing folders too which is on my wish list.

I got Heather 4 ornaments to start her collection off since she just got married and moved to Atlanta.

For robin I sort of winged it. I made a weave pattern out of colored papers and glued it to a card base. Didn’t help the cat jumped on the table and the table top is glass. So he slid and the stuff slid right along with him and plop onto the floor. I picked the cat up and gave him the evil eye and said it’s a good thing I really really really really like you! I used the die cut bird cage from Tim Holtz (the stamps in the previous card is Tim Holtz too. I got a crush on Tim Holtz LOL. Anywhoo when I first saw him on the Carol Duvall show I didn’t like it because it was heavy product base, but the thing is the products are awesome!) I added some fishing swivels to the bottom of the bird cage and made the bird out of scraps from the alchol ß can’t spell alcohol today or any day. That is how I spell it each time. WRONG! Each time too! I gave Robin a gift certificate to Myabis and some angry bird stickers and some glee music.

Kathryn I never got to. I gave her some make up, a ton of stickers for her students and a big bucket of candy for her students. She gave Heather and Robin gift cards for gas. She never gives gifts. I think I am annoyed a bit with her as usual. She comes to dinner, her dinner and leaves before she eats. She leaves early every time. The whole family thing doesn’t mean anything to her. 17 people where in the party and she leaves.

Since Glee is back on I got interested in down loading music again. I got a gift certificate for I tunes and downloaded their last episode and I got David Cooks new Cd and some live songs by Adam Lambert and an Elton John and Josh Groban song. I also found this better app on my phone to download more music so I laid in bed and took my list I had created and went crazy.

Heather forgot the Wedding CD. UGH! I want my pictures!!!!!!!! I miss my pictures!

I can’t find my kitty. Stinker Bell I know I complain about her but I never wanted anything bad happened to her. I last saw her Saturday morning when mom and I left. Wendell came home Saturday and acted weird. Yes weirder than normal. He rushes into the house, the door doesn’t shut cause he was rushing so fast. He practically ran back and closed the door. He goes into this room comes back out in a hurry with a plastic bag. He was outside a good long while and then comes back in empty handed. First I thought he dropped his food in his car. Then I remembered he did not have left overs. Then I thought and thought and thought about it and then I realized I hadn’t seen the cat in a while. Now it may be coincidence. I don’t know. His behavior was odd. I went outside and looked for her. I checked the trash for suspicious bags. I found none but still no kitty. I wish I knew what was all the hoopla was so I could rule it out. Mom asked him if he saw her and he said no. Then he was supposed to go with us and he cancelled too.

This and that and the last bit of getting my art on

I had a horrible headache today. So bad I puked a few times. I did not get my art on today but I caught up. I know it does not look like much but I got the fabric cut for the wreaths. It took me forever to find a straw wreath. AC moore, Michaels and Hobby lobby were all out. I finally found one after going to AC moore a second time. I should have looked at karen’s Supply store upstairs. I would have found one too! Mom saw the one I did for Christmas and she wants it. Blah. I told her she could have it when I find something to put on it. Since she wants that wreath I suppose I should cut another batch of material to make another one. It wont look as awesome. I can already tell.

21 days of 30 days of getting your art on

I did more prep work for my a new wreath.  I went to go buy the wreath at AC Moore they didnt have any.  I walked out of AC Moore empty handed and I even had a coupon ... shocking I know.  Anyway I had bought some extra goodies this week and didnt need it.

lets see what did I buy.

Black gesso
an ATC book (has templates for different shaped cards that opened)
Non stick scissors
black, purple, orange tulle
Two stamps a pair of glasses and a key
a metal key charm

I think I will go to hobby lobby and get the wreath tomorrow.  I finally got my paycheck from Dodgeland.  I had tell them I would be making a claim with the labor board if I did not get it.

So here I was ready to spend lots of money and I didnt spend any of it at AC Moore.  I did stop at the book store and wondered around a bit and saw I could pre order the Inheritance book.  I did.  So now when November 3rd comes along I will not have to worry how i am going to afford the book.

i have to get Robin a birthday present and I guess Kathryn and Heather too.  We will be seeing them Saturday.

Then Sunday we are all going to the beach.  Yeah what fun.

I just cut the strips.  It took an hour to do this much.  My hand is all crampy.  I wish the scissors were easier to use.

20 days of 30 days of getting your art on

So I tried my hand at zentangle an ornament again.  I am not getting the results I want.  I liked the ladies better.  I have a link some where on the tab that shows her designs on her www site.

anyway here is mine

I used the think sharpie marker.  the paint pen was too thick.  It kills the pen after one ornament.  So dont use the very expensive microns even though the lady says to use them.  yeah if your rich maybe.

Day 18 of 30 days of art

At first I couldnt decide what to do then I remembered there was this wreath I needed to start working on. I had the pieces cut out.  It was a matter of putting it together.  Today I finished about half of it.  I will give a quick tutorial on how to make it.  It is really simple.  Tomorrow I should have it finished for you to see.

First you will need a straw wreath.  I used a 14 inch here.  You will need fabric.  Its hard to tell you how much because fabric is different sizes on the bolts.  Generally I use about 2 yard for the 14 inch wreath.  Then you will need some pinking shears, craft glue, something to poke like a knitting screw driver.  I used a beat up old knitting needle that lost its pair.  Its a perfect tool for this project and lastly you will need some decorative item to sit on the wreath.

The story behind my version of this wreath. Once mom bought a wreath from this boy who was selling them.  I gave it a good look and realized I could do this.
I cut the squares and was stupid enough to use scissors to poke the fabric in.
I learned several things that I did wrong, from this wreath and the original.
First the fabric unraveled.  The original was pinky sheared.  Ok.  I can do that (kills my hands though, I think I need knew scissors)
On both wreaths the squares fell out.
Ok Craft glue.
No problem.
That is how I came up with my own version.
I have no set size to cut the squares.  I cut the strips of fabric with my scissors (wish I could afford that machine at walmart that is 50 bucks that will cut it for me!)
Then I cut them into squares (probably more like rectangles)
It is good for using up scraps because you really cannot not see the patterns only the colors.  Just use similar colors or go bold and use wild colors but space them out with some sense.
Lets begin
I squirt a little tacky glue (elmers glue will probably work too)  onto the wreath.  I take the fabric and place it on the glue.  I take the knitting needle and push it into the straw wreath.  That is all there is to it.
I dont fill in the back because who sees the back anyway.
After I am done I will pick some type of decoration to sit at the bottom of the wreath.

Here are some pictures to show the wreath and steps I took

fabric pieces I used.  As you will see you will not be able to determine the pattern

squirt a little glue

push the fabric into the wreath

another view.  lets pretend this wreath is only half way done.  I took this picture the day after I worked on half of it LOL

Half the wreath done.

This is one of my favorite pictures.  The picture makes this toad look HUGE!  Anywho I was told this is a girl toad because she is full of eggs.

day 17 of 30 days of getting your art on

Dont have a picture of todays art.  I was in Hinesville Georgia visiting Aunt sister.  They had to put her in a nursing home.  It is very sad to see this lady who went all over the world now forced to stay in a wheel chair or bed.

I zentangled in my note book.  It wasnt much, just enough to stratify the rule.  I didnt take any pictures either.  It was sort of a depressing trip.

remember when

My step dad was the state fair, amusement park King of winning stuffed animals.  Big ones.  Very Big ones and even Bigger ones.  Does not matter.  He wins them.
When he wins them we carry them.
When he wins them they get stuck in our rooms.
So we try to get rid of them before we leave the park.
Well sell them.
We trade them.   Lady could not believe I would trade my beautiful unicorn for her ugly red dog.  I did it.  Much easier to carry.  She was very excited.
We gave them away.
We gave one to each of mom’s co-workers children.  They sent me and Robin a Christmas gift to thank us.  Funny thing is we were glad to get rid of them!
He felt it was his duty to take all family and friends who were visiting to the closest amusement park and dump a big stuffed animal on them, if they wanted it or not.
For example is daughter Polly.  She was driving a yugo.  The thing would not fit inside.  He got some rope and tied it to the roof.  Now did he actually expect that thing to make it back to Alabama without falling off or getting buggied?
I need to ask her if she stopped at the first gas station and dumped it.  I would have.
I don’t have as many as I use to have but I still have a few.  I have the monkey that needs an ear operation and some teddy bears and a lion.  I think those will be my keepers.

this is adorable

This is my favorite.  The bird is taking off for flight and is flying away from me.  You can see its head under the right wing.   (our right the bird doesnt know he has a right LOL)

Day 15 of 30 days of getting your art on

So I came home and I heard the tv so loud that I could hear it from the outside.  It was like I was at a movie theater.  I give up telling anybody to turn it down so, when in Rome.  I plugged in my zune player to my speakers and aimed it right at the offenders wall and turned up full blast.  When a soft song like American Pie came on I skipped it.  I wanted some hoppy dancing thump thump Dynomite Adam Lambert old Guns and Roses music.  I want it to be heard on the moon!

Bruce said it does not do any good.  I told Bruce telling him to turn it down doesn't do any good either.

So on with my art.  I made an ATC today  Magazine cut out, phone book and colored pencils with a bit of glue.  The card back is a dollar store playing card.

I might work on something else in a bit.

I got my tea cup swap packaged up and made a tiny note card... not worth taking a photo.  Just black card stock with some scrap halloween paper and a spider punched out and glued on it.  I was tempted to put google eyes on it but I didnt do it.

I worked on my tp mini album a bit.  I got the mats done for one tube and the bases of a tag done.  I posed a question to the group to see how far we were suppose to go and from that point I will decide whats next.

i think I am going to finish making the tea and go to bed before 11 this time LOL unlike last night I was going to bed at 10 and it ended up being midnight.  I paid for it in the morning.  I hit the snooze two more times extra so it made me late and I had a headache.

grandma and grandson

aint that sweet!

day 14 of 30 days of getting your art on

I done two days work in one day.  Which means I did two things.  First is this post card.  It sort of cracks me up.

Its pretty darn whimsical in my opinion.

Here is the completed tea cup swap project.

I used modeling paste on a piece of board.  I wish I remembered where I got this board from.  It is black back and front.  I got quite a bit of it and I have used it a lot.  Maybe my Mom brought it home from work for me.  If so I will have to see if I can get some more.    Anyway who I bought the modeling paste for some project I saw on youtube and totally forgot what that project was so it sat unopened and unused.  I cracked that baby open and slathered it on the board.  I used the back of a paint brush and drew some blocks for walls.  Probably didnt have to since the scene took place in a cave but oh well It is my creative license isnt it LOL.
Then I printed my witches and colored them with prisma markers.  Another item I never used.  I actually had some that were 20 years old and still worked pretty well.  I had some newer ones that didnt work.  Whats up with that?  The only part that isnt prisma markers is the witches hair (bic Markers, didnt have grey) and the silver writing.
Then I fussy cut it out
Then I printed the tea cup and colored it and wrote the quote from MacBeth.  Notice I changed the cauldron to tea cup LOL
Then I used foam tape and taped the witches down to the board
Then I put some foam tape on the tea cup.  Glued some dollar store finds behind the top of the tea cup.  taped that down.
I glued a little extra dollar store finds at the corner

There you got it.  My tea cup swap.

Not really gruesome but I like it!
