A woman who works with her hands is a LABORER; a woman who works with her hands and head, a CRAFTSMAN; but a woman who works with her hands, her head and her heart is an ARTIST. ~ St. Francis of Assisi

I like this book vs I dont like this book

About a year ago walmart had these very thick sketch books in stock.  They are not the same that you find in the art section now.  I bought a few.
It was originally 7 or 8 dollars but I got mine on clearance for a few dollars cheaper at 5 bucks.
Here is why I like and dislike them.
I like the hard cover
I don't like the hard cover doesn't take a beating well.  I plan to cover it up any way so a little glue won't hurt.
I like that the signatures are sewn in, not glued in and not spiral bound.
I like that it lays completely flat.  The ones the have now don't and they take a beating even worse. This is my favorite part of the book.
I like the size
I don't like it was the only size.  I would have liked a smaller version too.  The ones they have in stock now do have 2 sizes.
I like there are a lot of pages
I dont like the quality of the paper.  The paper isn't up for mixed media.  So I dont use the back of the pages.  I use dollar tree cutting flexible cutting boards between the pages to protect bleed thru. I will glue the backs together as I finish pages.  Since I use pen & pencil the most its not that big of a deal.
I like it was super cheap especially when it was on clearance.
I did not like it being on clearance (except for the price) because that meant no more books
While its not the perfect book.... does one exsist?  Its a good option for a doodler.

Doodle alert & work in progress

Same materials except instead of the sharpie marker I used the copic multi liner it bleeds less

Next mixed media projects

I have to finish the art journal desire and 2 sets of atc 2 are spooky themed and 3 are leaves.  After that is done I am just itching to work on 3 things.  1 im going to Disney world in the not so far future and I want to make a photo book for it.  I got the bare bones of it done... now I have to Mickey mouse it up.  2. I want to finish up my steam punk man.  3. I want to alter this jewelry box.  Im thinking sugar skulls theme.

Ha ha you can see my tp in the jewelry box picture.   Once upon a time I might have cared but not today.

I think I changed my mind about the jewelry box.  I saw a youtube video on mini albums.  I wonder maybe instead of the skulls do a Disney mini book.  If its wide enough ... which it might not be to hold 4x6 album.   I would have to remove the bottom of the top to make it deeper.  I will examine it close ... if not a mini album holder a Disney box for my pins

Art journal from june

I got this wonderful art journal from June C.  in a art journal swap.  The theme is desire.   Isn't it awesome?   Im still putting last minute touches on mine.  If your interested in joining a great group of swappers search for art for the creative mind in yahoo groups or leave me a message and I will point you in the right direction.

Frame for my sister

Here is a frame I made for my sister.   I got the letters and frame from Michaels on clearance for 50 cents each.  The letters were blue and the frame was red.  I painted it black chalk paint then pink chalk paint. I distressed it a bit.  I found the dance word in my dance bix and painted that black then glued it on.  I found an old dance picture of hers popped that in.
